Diamond is formed at depths of around one hundred miles beneath the Earth’s surface and, as pure carbon, is the hardest mineral known to man. The name diamond is derived from the Greek adamas meaning 'invincible', and, since ancient times, it has symbolised strength and invulnerability. Highly prized for its rarity and purity and its characteristic fire and brilliance, the diamond is the most desirable of gemstones in jewellery.
Signifying eternity, health and abundance, Diamond is the birthstone for April.
It is also the gemstone given to mark 10 years of marriage, as well as a 60th wedding anniversary.
